Meta Launches Paid Ad-Free Subscription Option in Europe

If you’re using Facebook or Instagram and live in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, Meta will give you the freedom to decide how you want to interact with Meta platforms.

Meta will provide individuals in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland with the opportunity to avail of a monthly subscription for accessing Facebook and Instagram without encountering any advertisements. As an alternative, they can opt to use these platforms for free but will be presented with ads that align with their interests.

Meta Finally Has A Solution for Its Users

Meta said, We firmly believe in providing unrestricted access to our personalized products and services, even for individuals with varying incomes, in adherence to the principle of a free, ad-supported internet.

Irrespective of whether users prefer using our services without ads through a subscription or choose the free option with ads, we are fully committed to maintaining the utmost privacy and security of individuals’ information. This commitment extends to both our internal policies and the regulations outlined in the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

To ensure compliance with evolving European regulations, we will be rolling out a new subscription offering in the EU, EEA, and Switzerland. Starting in November, users residing in these regions who utilize Facebook or Instagram will be presented with the choice of continuing to use these personalized services for free with ads or subscribing to eliminate advertisements.

The subscription package, priced at €9.99/month on web platforms and €12.99/month on iOS and Android, is anticipated to be officially released next month. The concept of a subscription-based version of Meta’s services was initially disclosed by The Wall Street Journal earlier in October.

The company stated, “In November, individuals in these regions who utilize Facebook or Instagram will have the opportunity to either continue utilizing these personalized services for free with ads or alternatively, subscribe to eliminate advertisements.
